Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore hosted a workshop on Waste Management Rules 2016 in collaboration with CII and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
Bangalore: Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore hosted a workshop on Waste Management Rules 2016 in collaboration with CII and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
The purpose of the workshop was to facilitate a discussion between Industry members of the CII and the MoEFCC on compliance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 and the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility.
Industry representation was strong with the 69 participants (amongst others) consisting of senior management representatives like Mr. Pradeep Banerjee, Executive Director-Supply Chain, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Mr. Nandan Bhatia, Head- Facilities Management, Brittania. Senior Managers from Tata Chemicals, Mondelex India Foods Pvt.Ltd, Hindustan Coca Cola,Toyota and other corporates actively engaged in the discussions. Other stakeholders in the waste management area like Saahas Zero Waste, Binbag expressed their perspectives.
The MoEFCC was represented by the Joint Secretary, Mr. Ritesh Kumar Singh and Mr. Thiru Shambhu Kallolikar, Principal Secretary, Govt of Tamil Nadu and Chairman, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Puducherry Pollution Control Board had sent senior scientists for the workshop. XIME, Bangalore was represented by their Director, Dr. Rony Kurien, and Provost, Dr. Anantharaman.
The 2 day program concluded with workshop in groups on suggesting a way forward on Extended Producer Responsibility and it’s implementation in compliance with the Waste Management Rules notified in 2016. XIME as the academic partner will be helping the MoEFCC undertake and outcome analytics of the workshop.
